Man Accused Of Using Employer's Business Credit Card To Place Sports Bets

The 24-year-old man used his employer's credit card without authorization to place $6,000 in sports bets, Palos Heights police saqid.

PALOS HEIGHTS, IL—A 24-year-old man is accused of using his employer's business credit card to place wagers on various sports events, Palos Heights police said.

On July 18, the owner of DraftKings in Palos Heights reported discovering 23 unauthorized transactions made on the business's credit card totaling more than $6,000.

Palos Heights detectives initiated an investigation and subsequently obtained and executed multiple search warrants related to the fraudulent transactions. Detectives identified Michael Herrera, 24, as the person alleged to have made the unauthorized charges.

Police said Herrera was an employee of the business and used the business credit card without authorization to place wagers on various sporting events.

Herrera turned himself in Monday at the Palos Heights Police Department. The Cook County State's Attorney approved the felony charges of theft over $300 and use of account number with intent to defraud.

He was processed and released with pending court date.
