Back To School: Palos 2021-22 School Calendar

PALOS, IL — Back-to-school planning has already begun in Palos Heights, Palos Hills and Palos Park, with calendars available to help parents prepare for the first day in elementary school districts 117, 118 and 128, and high school districts 218 and 230.

The first day of school for K-8 students in North Palos Dist. 117 is Aug. 13. Palos Community Consolidated Dist. 118 welcomes back K-8 students on Aug. 25, with Palos Heights Dist. 128 starting on Aug. 24 for K-8 students.

Shepard High School students return on Aug. 17, with freshman returning Aug. 13 and Aug. 16.

Stagg High School welcomes back students on Aug. 16, with freshmen returning on Aug. 13.

Heading into the upcoming school year, some dates are subject to change as the coronavirus pandemic nears its year-and-a-half point. A mix of in-person, virtual and hybrid learning is still possible in the Palos communities.

Masking policies are still being discussed in Orland school districts. The Illinois Federation of Teachers and Cook County Department of Public Health announced last week its endorsement of guidelines from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Illinois Department of Public Health calling for universal masking in schools, regardless of vaccination status.
