PALOS HEIGHTS, IL—School bells are ringing in a new academic year, and back-to-school planning has already begun at CHSD 218 Shepard High School, with calendars available to help parents prepare their children for a smooth transition into the 2026-2027 school year.

Freshmen return to Richards Tuesday, Aug. 11, with all grades reporting Aug. 12 for the first day of school.

Heading into the upcoming school year, some dates are subject to change. We also suggest checking the full CHSD 218 calendar for conferences, open houses, meetings, exams, early dismissals, athletic and other school events.

Here's a look at some dates to know for the 2025-2026 school year:

Aug. 11 - First day of school, freshmen, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Aug. 12 - All grades report, 8 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.
Sept. 7 - Labor Day, off
Oct. 9 - Student holiday, no school
Oct. 12 - Columbus Day, no school

Nov. 3 - No student attendance, teacher institute/election day
Nov. 26-27- Thanksgiving break
Nov. 30 - Classes resume
Dec. 21-Jan. 5 -Winter break

Jan. 18 - No school, Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Feb. 3 - No school
