WORTH, IL — A male pedestrian found dead on the Southwest Metra tracks early Monday morning died of injuries caused by being hit by a train, the Cook County Medical Examiner said. He has not been identified pending notification of next of kin.

Metra police on the scene around 7:30 a.m. began taping off the area where the person's body was found, between the Worth and Palos Heights Metra stations at mile marker 18.2. Metra police are still investigating and the train involved has yet to be determined.

“One train was stopped in the area around 7:25 a.m. after the body was found, but that train was not involved in the accident,” Metra spokeswoman Meg Reile said.
