Village of Worth Lifts Boil Order Monday, Water Determined Safe To Drink: Mayor

WORTH, IL—You can go back to drinking the water in Worth. The boil order has been lifted as of Monday morning. Bacteriological test results determined that the water is safe to drink.

A massive water main break near the water tower at 109th Street and I-294 early Saturday morning sent a geyser of water shooting over the expressway.

Residents were placed under a boil order all day Saturday. The boil order was extended another 24 hours on Sunday.

“Our system is gravity-fed,” Mayor Mary Piquat Werner told Patch. “The pressure is greatest near the tower that has to push water to all corners of the village.”

Some Worth residents complained on neighborhood social media that they did not receive a text alert or other emergency notification from the village.

Piquat Werner said that Worth does have a notification system for public safety emergency alerts as well as village events and municipal updates, but only 400 residents have signed up for it.

“We send the information out about signing up for it with the water bills,” the mayor said. “We’re going to put it out there again.”

The mayor said the village is currently working with Nixle to determine who received or didn’t receive texts about the boil order.
