Carol Ann Rizzo (nee Haering)

Carol was born in Chicago to the late Arthur and Elsie Haering. She was the oldest child, and is survived by her sisters Joan Wiechern (Charlie) and Jane Haering. Carol grew up in the Marquette Park area of Chicago surrounded by her extended family. She attended Hope Lutheran Church where she was confirmed and taught Sunday school as a teenager. Carol was married at Hope as well as having her children baptized there. She graduated from Lindbloom High School and began work as a secretary at the Ford Motor testing site (now Ford City). She then went to work for H.P. Smith Paper Co. in the Chicago Clearing District, and was quickly promoted to executive secretary to the president.

When her children were older, she worked at Oak Forest Hospital. She then moved on to work for the architectural firm, Perkins & Will. She enjoyed and worked hard as their solo administrative assistant in their North Michigan field office, which in tandem was responsible for designing and constructing the Bloomingdales Building. After many years, she left to work closer to home, and was employed by Crown, Cork & Seal in Alsip, IL, from which she happily retired.

Carol is survived by her husband of 61 years, Mario Rizzo and her children Jeffery, Suzanne and Steven. Dearly missed Grandmother to Drew, Matthew, Monica, Sydney, Jennifer and Jaclyn. Preceded in death by her daughter-in-law Eileen Rizzo.

A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at 10:00 am followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 am at the Evangelical Luther Church of the Good Shepherd, 7800 W McCarthy Rd, Palos Heights, IL.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the charity of your choice or the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd would be appreciated.
