Celebration of Cultures at Palos West

Probably the only place where you could sample Arabic kuba, Polish sausage, Puerto Rican arroz con gandules, Italian pizzelles, and Swedish lingonberry juice all in one place was at Palos West on Wednesday, March 19 where 50 English Language Learner (ELL) and Accelerated Learning Program (ALPs) students proudly represented their ethnic cultures throughout the world.

Mrs. Martinez's and Mrs. Wojta's ELL students incorporated the arts into their projects and displays with artwork, artifacts, music, dance, literature, traditional games, clothing, language, food samples, and other items of ethnicity.

"In our global world," said Martinez, "It is important to build an understanding and an appreciation for each other."

The event featured special performances of ethnic dances performed by local high school students.  More than 250 were in attendance to enjoy the displays, food samples, and entertainment that celebrated the ethnic diversity of Palos West families.
