Cop's Nose Leads to Discovery of 'Raw Cannabis' in Car Trunk
Public defender tells judge it's not possible to smell "raw cannabis" in another cavity in car after man is charged with pot possession.

An Elgin man stopped on I-294 near Worth was arrested when police found a book bag containing cannabis in his trunk, prosecutors said.
According to the charges, Roger Adan, 19, was stopped by police shortly after midnight Friday for a defective windshield, where the officer found two ounces of suspected cannabis on Adan’s person.

When the officer detected an odor of “raw cannabis” inside the vehicle, he searched the trunk where he found 59.3 grams of suspected marijuana inside a book bag.
“It’s not possible to smell raw cannabis in a book bag in another cavity of a car,” the assistant public defender argued.

Prosecutors said Adan currently has a warrant for failing to appear in court on another pot possession charge out of Rolling Meadows.
Bail was set at $3,000. Adan’s next court hearing is March 21 in Rolling Meadows.
