District 230 bass fishermen sweep Sectionals

Three boats headed to state

The District 230 Bass Fishing Teams at Stagg and Andrew high schools swept the recent Sectional competition at the DesPlaines River, taking the top three spots and advancing three boats to state.

Stagg’s boat included senior Andrew Kaunas and junior Adam Styrczula took 1st place with five fish weighing in at 9lbs 4oz. Kaunas caught the biggest bass of the day at 2lbs 13oz. Second place also went to Stagg with five fish weighing in at 8lbs 5 oz with junior Alin Lungu, sophomore Ron Latwis and freshman Nathan Kielt in the boat. Third place with four fish at 6lbs 13 oz were netted by Andrew. In the Tbolt boat were sophomores Cole Kwasiborski, Garrett DeLaleurs, Kyle Hirsch, and junior Robert Bartolini. This is Andrew’s first time qualifying for the state competition.

The anglers will advance to the state tournament on Lake Carlyle May 19-20, where approximately 75 boats will vie for the win.
