Driver Injured Following Ridgeland Rollover Crash With Ejection
Witnesses told police the Mazda Miata was speeding when the driver lost control and crashed into a ComEd pole, Palos Heights police said.
PALOS HEIGHTS, IL — A sports car that hit a utility police Tuesday afternoon in Palos Heights was speeding when it crashed into a utility pole, causing the driver to be ejected, according to witnesses.
Just after 12:30 p.m., Palos Heights police responded to a single-vehicle rollover crash in the 12400 block of south Ridgeland Avenue. A 2020 Mazda Miata left the roadway and crashed into a ComEd pole, ejecting the driver, police said.
Witnesses told police that the Mazda was traveling at a high rate of speed when it lost control and left the roadway. The utility pole was sheared in half, knocking out power to the surrounding neighborhood.

The southbound lane of Ridgeland was closed between 119th Street (Route 83) and 124th Street for several hours while a ComEd crew replaced the pole.
The driver was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn in serious condition. Police said witnesses’ statements were consistent with evidence in the roadway.
