
North Palos District 117 would see a return of their state education funding with SB1 compared to SB16.
Senate Bill 16 (last year’s proposal)
Last year the State of Illinois proposed changing how it funds public education. In last year’s proposal (SB16), North Palos District 117 was being reclassified as an “affluent” school district. The result was that NPD117 was projected to have one of the largest per student losses in state education funding in our State. The projected loss would have been 4.1 million dollars a year for NPD117.
Senate Bill 1 (current proposal)
SB16 has been reintroduced as SB1. This version of the proposed changes in how Illinois funds public education contains amendments to protect state education funding for school districts like North Palos District 117. The updated projections released by the Illinois State Board of Education show that NPD 117 would receive 7.3 million dollars a year of state education funding w.

Additional changes will be made to SB1 as it is debated in Springfield this year. We will continue to follow this legislation closely and we will continue to remain in close contact with our State Representatives.
