Elderly Woman Thwarts Ruse Burglars In Palos Park
Palos Park police said fake leaf-rakers tried to take advantage of an elderly homeowner, but she was one step ahead of them.
PALOS PARK, IL — An elderly woman in her eighties thwarted a pair of would-be ruse burglars who offered to rake her leaves, Palos Park police said.
On Nov. 15, police said the landscaper approached the woman near 16th Street and 80th Avenue. The landscaper offered to rake the leaves in her yard for a reasonable rate. Before the woman went outside to show the man what work she wanted done in her yard, she locked her doors. As the woman stood outside talking to the man, she saw another man trying to enter her house.
When she asked the man what he was doing, he told her he just wanted to see the inside of her house. Police said the two left immediately. The woman was unable to provide police with a description of the men or their vehicle.
