Emily Betts said she is excited about becoming principal at Dorn School for the 2024-25 school year after spending this current year as assistant principal at Glen Oaks School.
“I’m thrilled and so grateful to have this opportunity,” said Mrs. Betts. “Working with (principal) Farah Daoud has really increased my knowledge of how a school operates. There are so many behind-the-scenes components that I have learned this year. Farah has been instrumental in my growth and I have learned a great deal from her. ”
She said she gained valuable knowledge this year by working closely not only with Farah but also with the Student Service Team, which includes the psychologists, social workers, and speech, occupational, and physical therapists.

“This year has been invaluable in regards to learning how to support students with various needs, in a proactive way. I really don’t know what I would have done without this team. They are amazing at what they do.”
Returning to Dorn will be somewhat of a homecoming for Emily who served as the ELA and Math Team Leader there.

She said serving as a Team Leader was instrumental in learning the curricular goals and structure within Dorn school. This gives her great perspectives into all the different elements that work together to guarantee that students are not only ready for the next grade level, but develop a deep love of school.
Mrs. Betts said that while Dorn has younger students than the students she had this year at Glen Oaks, her approach to students won’t change.
“Keeping students in the forefront is and always will be our main objective and we will work to do that by making sure students are supported in their learning while making sure teachers and staff have the tools and knowledge they need to be the most successful they can be,” she said.
Mrs. Betts said she embraces change and is excited to work with some former - and some new - team members and meet any challenges they may face. She said she is looking forward to working with “an amazing team at Dorn. I can’t wait!”
Emily and her husband Nick reside in Orland Park with their daughters Teresa and Brooke.
