In this smash comedy hit of the London and Broadway stages, cantankerous novelist Charles Condomine has re-married but is haunted by the ghost of his late wife, Elvira, who is unwittingly summoned by Madame Arcati, a “happy medium” Charles has asked to perform a séance in his home.
As worldly (and otherworldly) personalities clash, Charles’ current wife, Ruth, is killed in an “accident” Elvira had planned to take Charles’ life. Ruth “passes over” and seeks vengeance on Elvira. Together, the two “blithe spirits” haunt the hapless Charles into perpetuity.
