Moraine Valley Offering Teen Summer Drama Camp

Teens, ages 14 to 18, can embark on an intensive study of all aspects of theater during the Summer Drama Camp June 13 to 24, at Moraine Valley Community College.

Students will meet from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the John and Angeline Oremus Theater in the Fine and Performing Arts Center on campus, 9000 W. College Pkwy., Palos Hills.

The cost to attend is $395, which includes professional instruction, daily lunch, a T-shirt and a commemorative photo.

Beginning to more advanced teen actors will study acting, musical theater, improvisation, movement/choreography, stage combat, lighting and sound, and costume and set design. 

Students will present a final production showcasing all areas of study on Friday, June 24.

The Summer Drama Camp will be directed by Anthony Whitaker, who has performed as an actor at The Royal George Theatre, Bailiwick, Theatre on the Lake and Northeastern University. He has written and performed two one-man musicals: “I Was A Teenage Judy Garland Fan” and “Stolen Stories.” He also was a student in the Second City Conservatory Program and studied with Stephen Colbert. A lifelong fan of the Oz books and films, Whitaker has performed for the last 16 years at the Indiana Oz Festival and the International Wizard of Oz Club Conventions in original children's theater versions of the Oz books and his own musical revue, “Soon As I Get Home: Songs from the Yellow Brick Road.” Whitaker is an elementary and junior high music teacher on Chicago's South Side. He has directed many shows for various schools and the Beverly Arts Center Main Stage.
