Fake Turkish Rug Salesman Scams Senior: Cops

The salesman said he was the son of the elderly man's former Turkish rug vendor, according to reports.

PALOS PARK, IL — A man in his 90s was swindled out of thousands of dollars by salesman who reportedly sold the man a fake Turkish rug. The salesman also stole several authentic Turkish rugs from the man’s home, police said.

Palos Park police responded to a delayed report about a salesman and his “assistant” who showed up at the resident’s home in a white box truck. The salesman said he could offer great bargains on rugs and carpets.

Police said the salesman told the man he was the son of the man’s long-time Turkish rug vendor. After showing his rugs, the salesman sold the man what turned out to be a fake Turkish rug for $6,000, according to the report. The salesman and his assistant also purportedly stole several authentic Turkish rugs.
