Flossmoor Man Charged In Cigarette Burglary At Palos Heights Shell

PALOS HEIGHTS, IL — A Flossmoor man tied to a gas station burglary earlier this month turned himself Monday at the Palos Heights police station, a news release said.

Officers answered a burglary call that occurred during the overnight hours of Jan. 8 at the Shell gas station at 121st Street and Ridgeland Avenue. Managers told police that someone pried open a locked storage area and swiped an estimated 17 cartons of cigarettes, valued at approximately $2,600.

Shell security video captured the suspect’s vehicle leaving the parking lot. Using the gas station’s video and Flock license plate readers, Palos Heights police identified the suspect as Detron Williams, 49, of Flossmoor.

Shell employees also picked Williams out of a photo lineup, police said. Employees told police that Williams was hired by an outside temp agency to complete work at Shell gas stations in the area.

Williams was charged with one felony count of burglary. He is due in court Tuesday afternoon at Bridgeview.
