Free Manufacturing Training Offered To High School Seniors At MVCC

PALOS HILLS, IL — Thanks to a grant, Moraine Valley Community College will offer a Manufacturing Careers Exploration Pilot for non-college bound high school seniors who want to start earning money and quickly enter a career.

Not everyone is meant to pursue a traditional college degree, and there are many high-paying jobs in manufacturing. High school seniors unsure about their path can participate in this pilot program designed to introduce them to the world of manufacturing and production. Students will gain hands-on training and real-world skills that employers value. They also will have access to vocational training classes throughout the fall semester, including OSHA 10, soft skills and forklift operation, which will prepare them to enter the workforce.

Tuition, fees and books will be covered, thanks to grant funding. Participants also will earn $100 per credit hour completed with a C or higher, with a maximum of 15 credit hours and $1,500.

Moraine Valley partners with the Calumet Area Industrial Commission to provide job-shadowing and other manufacturing work-experience opportunities. This ensures that high school seniors will gain practical insights and develop connections in the industry to start a career right after high school graduation. Courses include:

• Office Productivity Tools

Apply today for access to as much free training as possible. Enrolling early allows access to the most classes and lets students collect the most microcredentials, such as fluid power, mechanical systems, electricity and electronics, and office productivity tools.

The five credit courses will be split across the fall and spring semesters in eight-week sessions. The remaining three employability microcredentials will be offered on a rolling basis when ten or more participants have been identified.
