Free Sign Language Classes Offered At Moraine Valley Community College

PALOS HILLS, IL Moraine Valley Community College is offering free family sign language classes for families who have Deaf or hard-of-hearing children ages birth through high school. The classes are taught by Deaf instructors in sign language and written English.

The Level 1 class will be for beginners. Sessions will run on Tuesdays from Aug. 30 through Oct. 4, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., with a choice of attending in person or virtually via Zoom. Another session for beginners will only be available via Zoom. It will run on Thursdays from Sept. 1 through Oct. 6, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

People with some sign skills can attend one of the Level 2 classes that begin in October. The Tuesday class will run from Oct. 11 through Nov. 15, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., with a choice of attending in person or via Zoom. A Zoom-only session will run on Thursdays from Oct. 13 through Nov. 17, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Immediate and extended family members are welcome to take the classes.
