GoFundMe Memorial Launched For Beloved D117 Teacher, Brian Boam
GoFundMe started for Dorn School PE teacher, Brian Boam, who died unexpectedly. Funds will go toward funeral and children's college funds.
HICKORY HILLS, IL — A GoFundMe effort has been started in memory of a beloved physical education teacher In North Palos School Dist. 117. Brian Boam, of Darien, died unexpectedly Jan. 8, at age 40.
Boam taught PE at Dorn Elementary School in Hickory Hills since 2009, where he was a dynamic presence in the building, and impacting the lives of hundreds of children. He leaves behind two children, ages 10 and 6, who were the apples of his eye.
“Brian will be remembered for his sense of humor, his positive attitude, his fun costumes/outfits, his willingness to always lend a hand and his love for his children and his students,” organizers said.

Boam was born June 19, 1981, in Palos Heights, to Robert and Nancy (Nimocks). He graduated from Marquette High School and attended Illinois Valley Community College and Illinois State University before earning his master's degree from St. Xavier University, according to his obituary. In addition to teaching at Dorn, he was a driving instructor for Top Driver in Downer's Grove for seven years. Being recognized as "Teacher of the Year" in 2014 reflected his love and dedication to his students, school, faculty, and community of Dorn School.
“Brian was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was an avid Chicago Cubs, Bears, Duke, and Notre Dame fan. Brian was best known for his sense of humor, his absolute love for his children, positive attitude, and his willingness to lend a hand to his family and school.”

He is survived by his children, Addison and Wesley; his parents, Bob and Nancy; his sister Kristen (Kevin) LeRette; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends. Brian was preceded in death by his grandparents and his niece, Alexis Wright.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m., prior to services on Saturday, Jan. 15, at Ottawa Funeral Home, 1111 LaSalle St., Ottawa, IL. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 a.m., St. Columbia Church, 122 W. Washington St., Ottawa.
Donations can be made to “Remembering Brian Boam” on GoFundMe. Funds raised will be used for funeral expense and college funds for his children.
