Harris Theater hosts Hamburg Ballet for two appearances this week

Chicago has a unique honor this week when the world-renowned Hamburg Ballet brings the classic Third Symphony of Gustav Mahler to the Harris Theater for Music and Dance on Wednesday, February 19, and Thursday, February 20 at 7:30PM.

One of the elements that makes these performances so interesting is that these are the ”only scheduled performances of Third Symphony during company’s 2014 U.S. tour Following the Chicago debut of Neumeier’s critically acclaimed Nijinsky last season, the world-renowned ensemble makes a triumphant return to the city with another Neumeier classic. In Third Symphony of Gustav Mahler—described by dance critic Clive Barnes as ‘a work of genius’ (New York Post)—the Milwaukee-born choreographer takes inspiration from Mahler’s captivating Third Symphony (the longest of Mahler’s nine symphonies), translating the imagery into a momentous six-movement ballet that conjures themes of creation, death, and existence, among others. The Hamburg Ballet will make its second appearance at the Harris in as many years, a special return as part of season 10.”

The Harris Theater is the home of so many wonderful dance performances each season. If you’re ready to escape our never-ending winter for a few hours, you can drive to the theater, park underground in the adjacent lot and enjoy the artistry of the Hamburg Ballet. Tickets for the performance are $40–$95, available at HarrisTheaterChicago.org or by calling the Box Office at 312.334.7777.
