Hills Chamber Holds Drive-Thru Food Drive For Thanksgiving Trimmings

PALOS HILLS, IL — With Thanksgiving less than two weeks away, the Hills Chamber of Commerce will once again be holding its annual Thanksgiving Drive-Thru Food Drive in Palos Hills Wednesday, Nov. 15. Drop off non-perishable food items from 9 a.m. to noon at Elsie's Pantry located inside Our Savior Lutheran Church, 10040 S. 88th Ave., Palos Hills.

Elsie’s Pantry is a ministry of Savior Divine Lutheran Church and Living Faith Community Church. The food pantry serves the communities of Palos Hills, Palos Park, Palos Heights, Hickory Hills, Willow Springs, Justice, Bridgeview and Palos Township. With rising costs on food, gas and utilities, there are many neighbors who will not be able to provide a traditional meal for their family.

Admittance is also based on monthly income level. The pantry is open on Thursdays from 2 to 4 p.m. People living within the boundaries may come twice a month. For more information about qualifications, please call Beth Heinrich, director of the pantry at 708-598-4435.
This year, Elsie's pantry will be distributing turkeys and turkey breasts to clients for Thanksgiving, to go with the non-perishable trimmings collected for the food drive. Share your abundance by considering donating the following items:

• Boxed stuffing mix (like Stove Top)
• Instant mashed potatoes in boxes or packets
• Jars of turkey gravy or dried gravy mix packets
• Dry macaroni
• Canned yams (please make sure any canned goods come with a pop-top lid or can opener)
• Canned cranberry sauce
• Canned veggies (green beans, corn, peas)
• Cornbread mix
• Canned pumpkin or fruit pie filling
• Pie crust mix
• Salt and pepper
