Honor and Respect: Palos Park 2017 Memorial Day Ceremony (VIDEO)
Palos Park residents gathered Memorial Day to pay respects to local service members who died in line of duty.

PALOS PARK, IL -- Palos Park residents gathered on the village green to honor the memory of service members and their families who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect the freedom we enjoy. Members of the Orland/Palos VFW Post 2604 presented colors and fired a rifle volley during a Memorial Day ceremony in remembrance of local service members who died in the line of duty.
World War II and Korean War Navy veteran Edward Stangel also remembered a fellow post member, Ronald A. Armstrong, a Vietnam War veteran who died suddenly at age 74 on May 25. Armstrong was a past commander and the present senior vice commander of the Orland/Palos VFW. Armstrong was active in in numerous veterans organizations, including the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery color guard, a Memorial Squad member and Honor Flight volunteer.
Visitation for Armstrong will take place from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 31, with services set for 10 a.m. Thursday, June 1, Richard J. Modell Funeral Home, Homer Glen. Interment will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, his family requests that memorials in Armstrong’s name be made to Honor Flight Chicago, 938 West Montana St., Chicago, Illinois 60614.
