Hope N. Meguerian (nee Nanian)

Visitation & Funeral Info.

Hope Nanian Meguerian, 93, died Sunday, January 29,2023 at her home in Lemont, IL., surrounded by family. She was the beloved wife and traveling partner of Garbis H. Meguerian, with whom she would have celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary this March.

Hope will be lovingly remembered by her devoted husband Garbis; her children
Diana Visco and husband James of Glen Ellyn, IL, and James Meguerian and wife
Mary Baglivo of New York City, NY. Hope's four grandchildren and their spouses
will greatly miss her: Tyler Visco and his wife Christina; Katie Visco and her
husband Henley Phillips; John Meguerian and his wife EB May, and Martha
Meguerian. Before she died, Hope was most happy to meet her two greatgrandchildren: Ava and Rami Visco.
Born in Providence RI on Jan 27, 1930, a full-blooded Armenian daughter of the late
Karekin and Rose (Mooradian) Nanian, Hope grew up in Cranston, RI with her
brother Kenneth (deceased) and sister Cynthia Nanian Pierce (deceased). Hope
attended the Kathryn Gibbs School in Providence, and worked as a secretary in the
Chemistry Department at Brown University in Providence. Garbis, passing through
the Chemistry Department at Brown, where he was pursuing a Ph.D., spotted the
beautiful Armenian secretary, and it was love at first sight. Hope and Garbis were
married in March 1951 and soon moved to Illinois. Hope then dedicated herself to
raising her children and developing her passion for writing and art. She composed
haiku and tanka poetry, for which she received many awards and prizes from,
among others, the Chicago Poets and Patrons Society and the Illinois Federation of
Women’s Clubs. Hope created wonderful paintings and sculpture that fill the
Lemont home.
Hope loved to travel with Garbis, particularly trips along the coast of Maine. She
also visited the top three places on her bucket list: the fiords of Norway, the great
art museums of Florence, Italy, and, her favorite, Japan.
The Meguerian family is most grateful for Hope's wonderful caregivers from Your
Loving Family, particularly Viljia, Janina, and Arta who saw her through her last
days. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Friday, February
10, 2023 at 10:30 am at Saints Joachim & Anne Armenian Apostolic Church, 12600
S Ridgeland Ave, Palos Heights, IL 60463. A memorial service will follow at
11:30 am at the church.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make donations in her memory to the Saints
Joachim & Anne Armenian Apostolic Church: https://saintsjoachimandanne.n...
