Hubbard Street Dance Chicago presents its Summer Series June 5 – 8 with world premieres and an outdoor simulcast.
In this Summer Series, five different pieces rotate through different performances. Gnawa, by Nacho Duato -- a Spanish modern ballet dancer and choreographer, as well as the incoming artistic director at Staatsballett Berlin -- is the only piece being performed during each show. The other segments feature PACOPEPEPLUTO by Alejandro Cerrudo; Falling Angels by Jiří Kylián, with Notre Dame artists-in-residence Third Coast Percussion performing live the Steve Reich score; and Cerrudo’s 13th World Premiere as Hubbard Street’s Resident Choreographer. All performances are at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance at 205 E. Randolph in Chicago.
Hubbard Street and the Harris Theater for Music and Dance will also present a live simulcast to a state-of-the-art, 40-foot wide, 22 ½ foot tall LED screen in the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park on Friday, June 6 at 8:00 p.m. This free, public, outdoor event is part of Millennium Park’s 10th anniversary celebration and highlights the final weekends of Hubbard Street’s Season 36 performances. This continues a new tradition of bringing dance outdoors that started with the Paris Opera Ballet in 2012.
