Obituaries

John E. Schmidt

Originally from the Beverly Hills neighborhood in Chicago, and late of Orland Park and Wheaton, died on January 7, 2021.

A graduate of St. Barnabas Catholic school and of St. Ignatius College Prep,, John entered the United States Army in 1945 where he received the Victory Medal in WWII, and attended Loyola University after his discharge, where he was awarded a Bachelor of Science in Commerce. Thereafter, John went to work for International Business Machines Corporation, where he spent his entire business career and won numerous sales awards.

After marrying, John and Shirley (the former Ann Shirley Hoddinott) raised four children, Gregory (Susan), Mark (Janella), Mary Jane (Michael), and David (Shannon). John is survived by his 4 children and their partners; by 6 grandchildren; by 13 great grandchildren, and by his sister, Dawn (Hughes). In addition to his many nieces and nephews and his many grandnieces and grandnephews, John is further survived by his sister-in-law Carolyn Hoddinott; his brother-in-law Bertram J Hoddinott Jr.; and his sister-in-law Barbara Hoddinott.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Alexander Church in Palos Heights, Illinois at a time to be determined. Due to the pandemic, the Mass of Christian Burial and later interment will be private. It is anticipated a celebration of John's life will be scheduled at a later date.
