Lake Katherine Welcomes Winter Solstice With Buckthorn Burning
Celebrate the shortest day of the year and help Lake Katherine Nature Center burn buckthorn Friday, Dec. 21.

PALOS HEIGHTS, IL -- Friday is the shortest day of year when winter officially begins on Dec. 21. What better way to celebrate the return of the light by helping Lake Katherine burn buckthorn just as sun sets at 4:22 p.m. This FREE all-ages event runs from 3 to 5 p.m.
Join Lake Katherine as the nature center burns buckthorn from the invasive species removal throughout the year and make a toast to the winter solstice. Be prepared for the cold and some physical labor. Cider and snacks will be provided. Lake Katherine Nature Center is located at 7402 West Lake Katherine Drive in Palos Heights. Sign up at the nature center or over the phone at (708) 361-1873.
