Mayor Bennett jumps on Com Ed outrage bandwagon

There is a really funny article on the front page of The Reporter. The headline reads, "Palos Hills mayor outraged with ComEd response to power outage." All our neighborhood has to say is welcome to the party. It's about time you joined us.

In November 2013 I wrote about our neighborhood's Commonwealth Edison frustrations. We lose power so regularly that everyone owns a big generator. After we cleaning our basement after storms lost its appeal, we put in a whole house generator at great expense.

So, what changed this time? Was it that people were without power for days? Been there. Was it that Southwest Highway was inaccessible? Maybe.

In our neighborhood we laughed when we read that Mayor Bennett said he was "sorry for what our residents have gone through." We've been asking for help for years and years. He has always dismissed our concerns telling us it's Com Ed's problem, not his.

Now he's angry -- at least in the newspaper. Will anything change? No one in Palos Hills really knows. Mayor Bennett is politically astute enough to know he has to make a public statement. Whether or not he follows up with anything other than an "on the record" remark remains to be seen. After all, is he really going to challenge a company that donates to his campaign fund?

In the meantime, we're busy showing off our whole house generator. It seems a lot of people in Palos Hills are interested in acquiring one.
