McCord's Collage Collective: Viewfinder
A glimpse inside the McCord Gallery and Cultural Center's latest exhibit, an abstraction of sorts, which runs until April 2.
Esoteric though it may be, successful abstract art relies on the consideration and communication between artist and audience. Without clearly defined boundaries, it can emphasize—sometimes all at once—the beauty, connectiveness, alienation and absurdity inherent in the human experience.
But, of course, you should judge for yourself. Until April 2, the abstract pieces of six area-artists will hang at the in Palos Park. Their work explores the textural and perceptional possibilities of collage using paints, gels, nails, photographs, maps, miniature Buddhas and book pages, among many other items and mediums.
A reception is scheduled the night of March 11 and a workshop on March 12 where students can learn the fundamentals of collage, design theory and technique. Members and non-members alike are encouraged to attend. Cost ranges from $85 to $95 with a $20 supply fee. Call 708-671-0648.
