Moraine Valley Introduces New Associate in Engineering Degree

PALOS HILLS, IL — This fall, Moraine Valley Community College is introducing a new associate degree in engineering science designed for students interested in pursuing a bachelor of science in engineering who intend to complete their first two years at Moraine Valley. Students will receive 66 credit hours, 37 of which are general education classes and the remaining 29 consist of engineering specialty and major field courses as well as related electives.

The program encompasses a range of engineering majors including aerospace, nuclear, agricultural and biological, civil, computer, energy management, computer science, electrical, engineering mechanics, architectural and chemical.

The community college is also offering an Engineering Pathways program, which guarantees transfer admission into the College of Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. It is designed for high school seniors who plan to enroll at Moraine Valley as first-time college students for the fall semester following graduation.

“This degree provides the first transfer credential specifically designed for engineering students,” Dr. Ryen Nagle said in a news release, dean of science, business and computer technology at Moraine Valley. “The success of our Engineering Pathways partnership demonstrated the need for transfer pathways for these students. The degree expands the opportunity for pathways beyond U of I to many of the institutions popular with Moraine Valley students.”

This new degree joins the Associate in Arts, Fine Arts, General Studies, Applied Science and Science at Moraine Valley.
