Mother McAuley Community Mourns 2013 Grad Fatally Struck by Car

Anna Marie Kreja, formerly of Midlothian, was a talented artist with hopes of becoming an illustrator.

Current Mighty Macs and alumnae are grieving a recent grad who was fatally struck by a car Wednesday in Oak Lawn.

Anna Kreja was a 2013 graduate of Mother McAuley High School and a striving illustrator whose work afforded her an opportunity to study at the American Academy of Art in Chicago, her mother told Tribune Media Group.

School spokeswoman Jennifer Busk described Kreja as an “incredibly talented artist evident in all her work.”

“The entire McAuley family is saddened by the news of her death,” Busk continued. ”Anna was a McAuley girl through and through—intelligent, articulate, kind, and tremendously creative.”

Anna and her mother Karen had just recently moved to Oak Lawn from Midlothian, where as a child Anna attended St. Christopher School.

“McAuley Families unite in prayer for her and her loving family,” wrote one alum on the school’s Facebook page.

Police say that Kreja, of the 11000 block of South Keating Avenue, was struck and killed crossing in an easterly direction across Cicero Avenue near 110th Street around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.

“The macs lost another good one today#RIPanna,” wrote another on Twitter.

“Wow can’t believe another beautiful soul is gone#RIPanna.”

Arrangements are pending, to be handled by Hickey Memorial Chapels, 4201 W. 147th St., and St. Christopher Church, 4130 W. 147th St. in Midlothian.

“Many prayers for her family,” wrote another. “So sad when one of our sisters leave us too soon.”
