Muslim Group Buys Former Church: Village

A Muslim organization now owns the building formerly known as the First Church of Christ, Palos Park.

The Muslim American Society of Chicago, based in Bridgeview, appears as owner on a request for inspection for occupancy filed with the Palos Park Building Department, the Regional News reports.

The group’s intended use of the building at 12300 S. 80th Ave. is unclear, but a special use permit granted to the previous owners in 1960 allowed use as a place of worship.

That permit remains in effect for the property today, Village Manager Rick Boehm told the Regional News.

A public hearing is not required, as the group is not seeking a zoning change. They also have not filed any construction requests.
