NPD117 Performs Well at 2023 South Cook Math Bowl
D117 Students Proved Their Mettle During Competition

North Palos School District 117 students showed off their mettle while bringing home medals for solving difficult written and mental math problems during the recent 2023 South Cook Regional Math Bowl.
The annual event is held at Prairie State College in Chicago Heights. D117 students took home several first-, second- and third-place individual and team awards during the competition. This year's event was sponsored by Prairie-Hills Elementary School District 144.
Students from Conrady Junior High, Oak Ridge and Glen Oaks schools competed against their peers from 16 area school districts. Students competed in both individual and team events and were under strict time constraints to finish.

Some of the tests allowed students to use scratch paper to solve problems while others penalized students for "writing in the air" to try to solve a problem.
Individual award winners included: Aaron Sierra (first place); Conrady; Andrew Daily (first place) Conrady; Lucas Szkoda (second place) Oak Ridge; Max Jankowski (third place) Conrady; Marc Rus (third place) Glen Oaks; Matthew Szczepanski (4th place) Oak Ridge; and Matthew Scislowicz (fifth place) Glen Oaks. Aleksandra Rico receive the MVP award.

The fifth- and sixth-grade team won 4th place while the 7th- and 8th-grade team won first place. The fifth- and sixth-grade team consisted of Andrew Daily, Michael Worotniak, Aleksandra Rico and Marc Rus.
Math coaches included: Jackie Woods, Conrady; Anne Marie Dybala, Conrady; Monika Kwak, Oak Ridge; Sakeenah Shakir, Glen Oaks and Jean Park, Oak Ridge.
The seventh- and eighth-grade team consisted of Max Jankowski, Hannah Svoboda, Maxim Garant and Aaron Sierra.
Math team leaders included: Bernadette Kittlaus, Conrady; Jean Park, Oak Ridge and Rebecca Selby, Glen Oaks.
