
Some are caring for grandchildren or aging parents while others are playing golf or pickleball. Still others are traveling to remote locations like Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos.
But on a recent morning, more than two dozen NPD117 retirees took time to share memories - and breakfast - with friends and colleagues with whom they spent what seemed a lifetime.
Peace Village in Palos Park again played host to the annual breakfast event that featured pancakes, sausage, bacon, eggs, fruit, coffee and friendships. Some are friendships that spanned decades in classrooms and are still going strong.

Dr. Tom Kostes, a former D117 superintendent and current board of education president, greeted the attendees along with good friend and former superintendent Dr. Ken Geraghty.
Dr. Kostes gave an update on the district and stated that the current enrollment is around 3,500 students. He also mentioned that the district has undertaken several constriction projects, including new, larger gymnasiums at both Glen Oaks and Oak Ridge schools.

He noted the district is in the process of building a major addition to Conrady Junior High School that will feature some 19 new classrooms when it is completed later next year.
Always with a great sense of humor, Dr. Kostes told the group: "We're always looking for substitutes. And we'll even pay you."
