Owner Dumps Dog from SUV and Takes Off

Police rescued the pit bull from the road after its owner left.

A pit bull’s owners kicked it out of their car and took off Thursday, police said.

The dog chased after the SUV as it pulled away near Wolf and Old Creek roads in Palos Park, police said. Police were called after a neighbor witnessed the heartbreaking scene.

The dog was not injured, and is not microchipped. It was taken to Animal Welfare League in Chicago Ridge.

“Animal abandonment is a crime in Illinois,” said Police Chief Joe Miller. “But if you can’t take care of your pet you can surrender it to us or one of the many animal shelters in the area. That way you know the process and you know the animal is going to be taken care of.”

Anyone with information on the dog can contact police at 708-671-3700 or 708-448-2191.
