Pair of Shepard players selected for Chicago Bandits All-Star Game

Representing Team Cook County vs. Team McHenry County on Tuesday, June 16 at 8 p.m. in Rosemont

The varsity softball team from Shepard High School proudly announces that two of its players have been selected to compete in the Chicago Bandits All-Star Game on Tuesday, June 16 at 8 p.m. at The Ballpark at Rosemont.

Heather O’Kelly, the South Suburban Conference runner-up for Player of the Year, and DePaul University recruit Skylor Hilger will represent Shepard.

“Heather is an unpredictable hitter and an infielder’s nightmare - she will hit for power (3 HR, 3 triples), slap on corners and one hand bunt. She has 23 attempted bunts and successfully reached first on 21 of them,“ said Shepard varsity head coach Kelsey Clifford.

Hilger, a three-time All-SSC selection, led Shepard with 77 quality at bats and 20 two-out RBIs. She hit .543 with 9 home runs, 27 extra base hits, and 52 RBIs in 33 games.

O’Kelley had 75 quality at bats. She hit .556 with 31 RBIs from the lead-off position.

“Skylor and Heather’s tandem defensive work together is just much a threat as their deadly bats. Heather has 12 successful assists in centerfield (out of 13 attempts) and 5 of them have been tossed to Skylor at SS for a double play on a sleepy runner. These impressive defensive skills removed 2 runners for Richards in one game,” Clifford said.

Team DuPage County faces Team McHenry County at 6 p.m. Both games take place at The Ballpark in Rosement. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children.
