Palos 118 Superintendent of Schools Dr. Anthony Scarsella pointed to the current board’s many achievements in the past 2 years which includes establishment of an orientation process for newly elected board members, a new superintendent evaluation system, implementation of board member self-evaluation practices, creating board governing commitments, and engaging the community in the District’s Portrait of a Graduate phase 1 master plan work.
Even with the challenges posed by the pandemic, Dr. Scarsella said that the board continued making plans for when school operations would return to normal.

“Understanding the importance of planning for the future, even during difficult times, the Board engaged the entire school community in the development of a Portrait of a Graduate, phase 1 of our master plan, to identify the attributes and skills our school community believes all Palos 118 graduates need to be successful in high school and beyond,” said Dr. Scarsella.
He also noted the work the board has conducted to create a “collegial, collaborative, efficient, and effective board of education that focuses on implementing best practices in school board governance and monitoring district performance.”
“Serving on the District 118 school board is a privilege that comes with high expectations,” said Palos 118 School Board President Nadine Scodro.
“The Board has worked in an intentional and collaborative fashion to implement and perfect systems that ensure we operate at an optimal level in order to benefit our entire Palos 118 school community,” she said.
