Palos 118 Students Add Up Wins at South Cook Math Bowl

Palos 118 students participated in the 2022 South Cook Math Bowl.

Students at Palos School District 118 competed in the 2022 South Cook Math Bowl at Prairie State College on April 28 and 29.

The event sees math students from elementary and middle schools compete against one another in both individual and team events.

Ten students from Palos 118 finished in the top 6 with one team taking first place in Division A which includes first and second grade students.

“After a two-year hiatus, it was great to be back at the Math Bowl this year,” said Palos East 3rd Grade teacher Tim Pritchard.

“The results are really a testament to the combined efforts of the participants, coaches, teachers, and parents,” he said.

The final scores and placements for all of the Palos 118 students included:

Division A (First and Second Grade) - First Place

  • First Grade Individual: Charlie O'Malley - First Place
  • Second Grade Individual: Kevin Kaufmann - Second Place
  • Second Grade Individual: Marshall Pizur - Fourth Place

Division B (Third and Fourth Grade) - Third Place

  • Third Grade Individual: Nathan Bhojraj - First Place
  • Third Grade Individual: Mohammad Shraim - Third Place
  • Fourth Grade Individual: Rhiannon Chen - Fourth Place

Division C (Fifth and Sixth Grade) - Fourth Place

  • Fifth Grade Individual: Ellie Kotarba - Second Place
  • Fifth Grade Individual: Alira Lika - Sixth Place
  • Sixth Grade Individual: Zachary Jones - Fifth Place

Division D (Seventh and Eighth Grade) - Fourth Place

  • Eighth Grade Individual: Jack Krusinski - Fifth Place
