Palos 118 Teams Win First Place in 3 Divisions at Math Bowl

Palos School District 118 teams won three first place division awards from the 2023 South Cook Math Bowl that was held over two days at Prairie State College in April.

On day one, the Palos 118 5th/6th grade team took first place with sixth graders Alira Lika placing fourth and John Maka taking second in the individual competition. Also on day one, the 7th/8th Grade team placed fourth with seventh grader Sarah Bobrowski and eighth grader Autumn Wrenn-Martin both taking fourth place in the individual awards.

On day 2, the 1st/2nd grade team finished in first place with first graders Jacob Dubrowski taking 5th place and Jacob Michau taking 1st in the individual competition. Second graders Charlie O'Malley placed 4th and Claire Drapar received a 3rd place finish in the individual competition. The 3rd/4th grade team came in first place with third grader Kevin Kaufmann taking 1st and fourth grader Nathan Bhojraj taking 1st place in the individual competitions.

“I'm so grateful that these students had the opportunity to pursue their interest in math and get recognized for it at the South Suburban Math Bowl,” said Math Bowl coach and Palos East teacher Julie McNamara.

“District 144 does such a great job organizing this event for our students to showcase their love of Math,” said Palos East 3rd Grade teacher Tim Pritchard.
