Student council members at Palos East Elementary School recently completed a successful food drive to benefit a local food pantry ahead of the holiday season.

The non-perishable food items collected by the school will be donated to the Palos Heights Food Pantry.

The food drive is organized each year by the Palos East student council, said 5th grade teacher Cathy Casey. She said that the event helps stock the local pantry during the holiday season and helps community members in need. Once the food is collected, student council members also pack the donations up for delivery.

“It is amazing how generous our Palos East families are in making our drive a huge success and helping our community,” said Mrs. Casey.

She added that the Student Council will continue its charitable outreach efforts this fall, with a collection of gently-used sneakers to benefit the non-profit organization Sneaker Impact that will take place December 4-8 at the school.
