Palos Heights Residents Want a Bigger, Better Rec Center

Unofficial results show that Palos Heights will get its revamped rec center.

Palos Heights voters Tuesday showed their support for an expanded and improved rec center.

With 13 of 14 precincts reporting just after 10 p.m., vote totals came in at 3,001 in favor of the city issuing $6.3 million in bonds to cover renovations and expansions to the center; 1,790 voted against it.

Renovations will include a multi-purpose/banquet room with an instructional kitchen in place of the current gym, space for a teen center, a pre-school area and multi-purpose community rooms and extra parking. The new recreation space, located adjacent to the existing building, will include a multipurpose gym, locker rooms and restrooms on the lower level. On the upper level, there would be a three-lane walking/jogging track, a wellness center with exercise equipment and a lounge.
