Palos Park Police Check On Seniors During Cold Weather

Palos Park police are conducting well being checks on senior during the excessively cold weather. Also, info on Palos-area warming centers.

PALOS PARK, IL -- Family members concerned about elderly loved ones but live to far away to check up on them, or seniors who need some help managing the cold weather can contact the Palos Park Police Department for a well being check. Simply call 911 or the police non-emergency number at 708-448-2131.

All area residents are urged to stay indoors as much as possible for next few days. That National Weather Service has issued a wind child advisory starting at midnight Tuesday through 11 a.m. Wednesday. Wind chill readings remain below zero area wide all day, and then return to dangerous levels overnight for most areas in northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana.

The cold is expected to linger in the Chicago region through most of the week, with highs rising back into the teens on Thursday and Friday, with a chance of snow both days, the National Weather Service said. Elevated or excessive cold risks are expected to return to the region over the weekend.

Chief Joe Miller of the Palos Park Police Department said village officers have conducted four well-being checks at the request of family members on Tuesday. Officers will help make accomodations for seniors whose homes are without heat. An elderly woman found to be suffering from the flu during a well-being check was taken to the hospital for treatment.
