Palos Park Police Enhance DUI Patrols Over Labor Day Weekend

Palos Park police will be paying special attention to the roads through Labor Day, Sept. 5, for impaired and distracted drivers.

PALOS PARK, IL — Palos Park police will be adding extra patrols over Labor Day weekend who will be keeping a close eye on the roads and enforcing the law to keep motorists safe from now through the early morning hours of Sept. 6. Expect to see a heightened police presence in Palos Park and other nearby communities over the holiday.

Additional officers will be on patrol cracking down on impaired drivers, speeders, and those who are a danger to themselves and others on our roadways. State, county and local police will be out looking for those creating a danger on our roadways over the long Labor Day Weekend

Those who will be out enjoying the holiday weekend and who drink alcohol are highly encouraged to designate a non-drinking driver in advance of the weekend. Motorists are encouraged to call 9-1-1 to report suspected drunk drivers.

“As motorists travel through Palos Park, we want them to know our officers will be out in force, working hard to remove impaired drivers from the roads. Our goal is for everyone to get safely to their destination.” said Commissioner Dan Polk, of the Palos Park Police Department.

PPPD offers the following safety tips to help keep drivers and motorcycle riders safe during this holiday weekend:

  • Designate a non-drinking driver in advance or plan for alternative transportation if you will be consuming alcohol. If hosting a party, provide non-alcoholic drinks for the designated driver.
  • Buckle up or wear proper safety equipment, depending on your mode of travel.
  • Establish and enforce a distraction-free zone behind the wheel.
  • Leave plenty of time to get to your destination, so you are not speeding to get somewhere.
  • Get plenty of rest and, if possible, coordinate with your passengers so that no one is driving while fatigued.
