Palos Park Police Increase St. Patrick's Day DUI Patrols

PALOS PARK, IL — Don't count on the luck o' the Irish to get out of a DUI on St. Patrick's Day. Palos Park police will be ramping up patrols looking for signs of impaired or distracted driving starting through the early morning hours of Wednesday, March 18.

St. Patrick's Day is one of the deadliest holidays due the number of drunk drivers on the road. This year the holiday falls on Tuesday, March 17, which means there will be a lot of parties at homes, bars, parades and other venues. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the St. Patrick's Day holiday period from 2010 to 2014, 266 lost their lives due to drunk-driving crashes. In 2014 alone, 29 people (28 percent of all crash fatalities) were killed in drunk-driving crashes over this period.
