Palos Park Police to Offer Rides Home to Drunk New Year's Partiers

Planning on going out in Palos Park on New Year's Eve? The police want you to make it home safe.

Planning on knocking a few back while ringing in the new year?

If that’s the case, the Palos Park Police Department would rather drive you home than have you get behind the wheel. Anyone who is unable to drive and doesn’t have a ride home can call the police at 448-2191 and an officer will pick you up and take you home.

Even Police Chief Joe Miller is giving out his personal cell phone number, 259-1035, and will be driving late-night revelers home.

“The concept is to encourage and take advantage of it,” Miller said in a news release. “If someone is impaired and needs a ride, we would much rather have them call us than get behind the wheel and get into an accident.”

Other than serving as chauffeurs to the impaired, Palos Park Police will also be out in force on patrols. So if you do make the decision to get behind the wheel, you likely won’t get far.

The choice is simple, either jeopardize your safety and run a high risk of getting caught, or let the cops drive you home — no questions asked.

“Make this a safe New Year’s Eve for you and for everyone else on the road. Don’t drink and drive,” Chief Miller said.
