Palos Park Police Spread Warmth With Senior Well Being Checks

Families can set up a well-being checks for older family members with Palos Park police during Wednesday's frigid temperatures.

PALOS PARK, IL — Family members concerned about elderly loved ones but live too far away to check up on them, or seniors who need some help managing the cold weather, can contact the Palos Park Police Department for a wellbeing check. Simply call 911 or the police non-emergency number at 708-448-2191. All area residents are urged to stay indoors as much as possible for the next few days.

That National Weather Service has issued a wind child advisory through Wednesday. Wind chill readings will remain below zero degrees area-wide throughout the day, and then return to dangerous levels overnight for most areas in northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana.

Chief Joe Miller, of the Palos Park Police Department, said village officers have conducted four well-being checks at the request of family members on Tuesday. Officers will help make accommodations for seniors whose homes are without heat. An elderly woman found to be suffering from the flu during a well-being check was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Palos Park’s primary warming center for those who need shelter during the cold weather is Palos Township, 10802 S. Roberts Road, Palos Hills, which will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. No transportation is provided to the township office.
