Palos Remembers Beverly Carole Avery (1939-2021)

Services will be held at Kerry Funeral Home and St. Alexander Church on Oct. 9.

PALOS, IL — Beverly Carole Avery passed away Sept. 29 at age 81.

Her funeral will be held at St. Alexander Church on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Avery was born in Chicago, on Nov. 18, 1939 to Leonard and Valentyne Arent. She graduated Immaculatta High School Park Ridge in 1957, and received a B.S. in Early Childhood Education from University of Illinois Champaign in 1962, and later received a masters in Early Childhood Leadership and Advocacy from National Louis University in 1991.

Avery co-founded, co-owned, and co-operated Sandbox Preschools for 52 years with Suzanne Moustakas. In 2013, Avery was honored by the Illinois State Assembly as a “Children’s Champion” for her work with childhood education.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years Arthur Avery, her three daughters Karen AVery (Greg), Dawn Soukup (Greg) and Kelly Sise (Patrick); and her nine grandchildren Paige, Morgan, Johnluke, Jacob, Abigail, Liam, Brendan, Hayden, and Madison.

Visitation will be held Friday, Oct. 8 from 3 p.m until 8 p.m. On Saturday, chapel prayers start at 9:30 a.m. at the Kerry Funeral Home and Cremation Care Center at 7020 West 127th Street in Palos Heights, followed by a 10 a.m. mass service at Saint Alexander Church. Interment will be private.
