Palos South Mathletes Take First Place at SWIC Competition
Both 6th/7th, and 8th grade teams took home first place trophies as well as awards for individual team members.
Students from Palos South Middle School recently took home two first place team trophies at the annual SWIC (Southwest Interscholastic Conference) mathletes contest at Conrady Junior High in March.
The Palos South sixth and seventh-grade team took first place overall with Nathan Bhojraj and Robert Fala both receiving medals for the individual competition. The sixth and seventh grade team includes Nathan Bhojraj, Madin Burica, Adam Dougdag, Robert Fala, Carol Pack, and Maya Weclewicz.
The South eighth grade team also took first place with Mohammad Abdelhamid scoring an individual medal. The eighth grade team includes Mohammad Abdelhamid, Lana Farahid, Iqra Fatima, Brian Kaufmann, Ameen Krad, and Alex Perres.

The team’s coaches are Gina Marek and Dan DeWolf.
“The students practiced so much for this contest, and I am so happy to see their hard work pay off,” said Mrs. Marek.
