Palos South Middle School SAVE Promise Club Awarded for Inclusion Efforts
The Palos South SAVE Promise Club was recognized for their efforts to foster inclusion through its events and outreach activities.

Palos South Middle School was recently named the recipient of the Sandy Hook Promise SAVE Promise Club Sustainability Management Supports Award. The award recognizes schools that implement Start with Hello and Say Something programs which foster inclusion, reduce social isolation, and create an atmosphere of trust in their schools.
In addition to a $500 grant, Palos South will also receive a SAVE Promise Club kit which includes promotional support materials including powers, guides, wristbands, and SAVE Promise stickers.
SAVE stands for Students Against Violence Everywhere and is part of the Sandy Hook Promise Know the Signs program which teaches students to be more socially inclusive and connected to one another.

Palos South students organize several Start with Hello events throughout the year designed to create a more inviting school environment as well as Say Something Week which encourages students to find a trusted adult to talk to. Palos South Social Workers Jill Yerkes, Angela Grebenor, and Jill Martinez serve as the SAVE Promise Club sponsors and said that the club would use the funds to continue to support events that promote inclusion and acceptance.
“At Palos South we believe that combating social isolation is key to school safety and creating a happy, comfortable place for all of our students,” said Social Worker Jill Yerkes.
