Palos South Volleyball Teams Win SWIC Postseason Championships
Both of Palos South Middle School girls' volleyball teams won their championship games during the post season championship tournaments.
Both of Palos South Middle School girls’ volleyball teams won their championship games during the Southwest Interscholastic Conference (SWIC) Post-Season Volleyball Tournament on March 11.
The eighth grade team bested the previously unbeaten Century Junior High team. This is the fourth straight championship win for the Palos South 8th grade team.
Members of the 8th grade Cardinals team are: Julia Koeppen, Hope Kohler, Emily Tylka, Leyalli Mansour, Nicole Stec, Kacey Fitzpatrick, Mya Slowikowski, Amelia Kadamus, Audra Zukowski, Lexi Mackey, Greta Rimkevicius, Nora Netznik, Maya Kobylarczyk, and Aina Guzys. Martin Duggan coaches the team.

Kacey Fitzpatrick and Hope Kohler and were named to the SWIC All-Conference Team and Amelia Kadamus was voted as the Tournament Most Valuable Player.
The eighth grade team had a 15-1 record during the regular season for a second place finish in the conference and 3-0 in the tournament for a first place finish resulting in an 18-1 overall record.

Palos South Middle School Physical Education teacher and eighth grade volleyball coach Martin Duggan said “I’m so proud of these girls. They were determined and worked hard every day to get to this point. This was the perfect ending to an incredible season. Palos South is going to really miss this team.”
Palos South’s seventh grade girls’ volleyball team also won their championship game against Grissom Middle School in the SWIC Post-Season Tournament.
Members of the seventh grade team are: Ava Mackey, Teagan Jeffers, Sofia Wilson, Brooklyn Parr, Katy Zumerchik, Michelle Rozanski, Dorian Urquizo, Maggie Purtill, Makaleigh Terry, Maya Surdel, Molly Hackett, and Sarah Cairo. Scott Adams coaches the team.
Brooklyn Parr, Sofia Wilson, and Katy Zumerchik were named to the SWIC All-Conference Team and Katy Zumerchik was voted as the Tournament Most Valuable Player.
The seventh grade team was 15-1 during the season for a first place finish in the conference and 3-0 in the tournament for a first place finish resulting in an 18-1 overall record.
Palos South Middle School Science teacher and seventh grade volleyball coach Scott Adams said, “The girls put forth much work and effort and with much determination, they had a very successful season. They are really nice kids, and I am happy to have had the opportunity to be their coach this year. I am very proud of them for all they have accomplished. They represented Palos South with dignity and honor.”
